Haiku: Viewpoints

California’s May:
Tall brown grass in open space.
Fear spreads like fire.

Hand-in-hand we hike:
Either I lead or you lead.
Dog lingers behind.

Oh yes, Montana can be on the verge of a flaming breakdown in the summer. It's hard for me to imagine May as being a danger month. The haiku really says that. I really like the second one too; so immediate and tender.

You're so right about the fear of fire. Yikes. I really like your haikus and photo. And I like the line "either I lead or you lead" -- that's sweet.

I grew up in the bay area and now I live in the foothills (soon the mountains). Fire is a big fear in CA but your first pic reminds me of home :) Lovely haiku.
