10 Occupations I Wanted to Have When I Was Young

Those of you who “know” me – in the blog reality sense, not the Biblical one, thanks – have read my laments about not remembering an awful lot of specifics of my childhood. [Armchair therapists, keep your theories to yourselves!] So it should come as no surprise that I’m just not able to remember 10 answers I might have given throughout my younger days to the age-old question, “What do you want to do when you grow up?”

I can come up with three: a teacher, an astronaut and a writer. That’s it. But I’ve got a wealth of malleable young minds in my household right now, even as I key. And here’s what they have wanted to be, at various times in their brief lives.

1. A Navy SEAL (from the 10-year-old boy)
2. A rhythm guitarist in a rock band (from the 10-year-old boy)
3. A spy – either for the British or the Americans (from the 10-year-old boy)
4. A reporter (from the 10-year-old boy)
5. A pop star (from the 8-year-old girl)
6. An actress (from the 8-year-old girl)
7. A baseball manager (from the 8-year-old girl)
8. A Manchester United soccer player (from the 5-year-old boy)
9. A drummer (from the 5-year-old boy)
10. A band mate of his brother’s (from the 5-year-old boy)

Want to see what others aspired to be – and maybe find out if they made it? Go to

Wow! #1 is very noble. I don't know of ANY kids that want that job. OF course, most of my children (in our family) are girls....

Thanks for sharing your incredible list.

Happy Tuesday!

Hi,

I’m hosting the Ringing of the Bards poetry blog carnival, June 16. If you’d like to be included, leave a comment here or email me at tielansari @ gmail dot com any time through June 15.

Any style is welcome, but I’m particularly showcasing formal poetry this time around.

Don’t forget to come back and see the carnival!

I like number #3.
Are kids wonderful?
I love when you ask them to explain how something like babies being born. You get some amazing stuff.
Thanks for sharing,
Frances

Thanks for popping in on my blog. It was fun to see your take on the question from the kids point of view. I guess not much changes in the answers over the years.

A spy! Wouldn't that be scary.
