10 Things I Don't Like About My Job

Gee, guess what my job is?

1. Cleaning the toilets.

2. Refereeing the children’s fights.

3. Cleaning up various body fluids coming out of various body orifices.

4. Yelling at my charges.

5. Checking homework.

6. School traffic at drop-off and pick-up.

7. Filling out form after form after form after form.

8. Attending [soccer/baseball/T-ball/gymnastics/dance] practice.

9. Nagging, nagging, nagging.

10. Daydreaming about having a real job.

Boy, don't I identify with #6. As a school crossing guard, I am amazed at how stupid some parents get when they're behind the wheel in a school zone. In four years I know I've saved four kids' lives, and I've been nearly run over three times. Once I really thought I was going to the hospital, but she missed me by about eight inches. Her Tahoe was going about 25 at the time and I was standing on the double yellow center line.

You were with the SF Chronicle? (I saw your comment on the Tuesday 10 page.)

Oh ya....I remember the traffic snarls back in my day when kids needed to be picked up after school!

I am so weird - your #1 item actually doesn't bother me. I do that in my other, unpaid, at-home job.

And re: your comment on my TT post - junior high's about right. The better days get up to high school. The worse ones? Well, we're a children's-services agency, and sometimes it seems like the children work here.

Any job that requires cleaning toilets and substances that can be emitted from various orifices gets a thumbs down! But believe it or not, that can be part of being a restaurant manager's work too and trust me, I hated that when things happened to make it necessary for me to do those things. Now, my daughter generally takes care of the bathroom cleaning but we both have to deal with the other dreaded task - frequently too!
