The Weekly Wonderings #24

TMNT
1. Pete is trying to round up all the Blockbuster DVDs to return and meeting resistance from the youngest, who wants his dad to watch the movie with him before it’s returned. Pete says, “If you keep it until you’re 25, I still won’t watch it with you. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” The youngest’s reply? “You’ll be dead by then.” (In fact, Pete will be 69 if he’s still alive.)

2. I’m working on a confidential study for a transit agency. I really shouldn’t talk about it. And I won’t. But looking at one guy’s response to why he looks at the system map had me thinking. What he said was, “I just like to know if I’m on the right track, the right train. I always like to look at the whole system and I can always talk to someone if they’re new to the city. It’s a good tool. I always meet people.” Part of me thinks he’s a nice guy to help out others. The other part of me – the suspicious one – thinks he’s probably a Ted Bundy-like character who preys on tourists, especially women.

3. What does my suspicion about that guy on the train say about me? I really shouldn’t try analyzing and writing reports during all-night stretches. My mind starts to wander. And I’m already having to ice my left wrist and right elbow down as often as I can stand it.

4. I’m crippling myself why? To help a friend. And for the money.

5. That makes me a…you know the quote, right? [These last four wonderings all occurred in the 3 a.m. range. But you could tell that, right?]

6. So, this secret project I’m working on. [Relax, it’s not that important of a project. You don’t really need to know what it is. You really shouldn’t care.] All told, it’s taken maybe five days worth of time away from the kids this summer. What does the eldest say when he’s going to sleep after I say I’ll be up all night? “Then you’ll be able to spend time with us?” Near immediately, he wanted to take the words back. I said, “You can’t take something back. Nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah.” Not really. I let him take it back.

7. Life Force V? I’m not feeling any stamina and focus. I’m feeling very, very tired.

8. What’s one of the safest crops for folks who have property fronting well traveled roads to plant? Brussels sprouts.

9. I pinched many an ear of corn in my thieving days during summers as a kid, but I’d never have pinched a Brussels sprout.

10. My latest inheritance scheme for my children? Paying them off in sand dollars.

I actually like brussel sprouts. They're so cute, like tiny cabbages.

And when I was a kid, I would SO TOTALLY have been into being paid in sand dollars. For that matter, I'd think it was cool right now. As long as they're whole.
