The Gutsy Girlie

When my daughter was fresh born, I took to calling her "Girlie." I probably shouldn't admit it, but I had picked that up from a woman who called her little female rat dog "Girlie." Like I said, it's probably not something I should admit.

The moniker stuck for the longest time and others picked it up, too. We've not used it for years, having come up with other, more sing-song and humorous nicknames for the lovely child. I think of her as my Girlie, still, and now I need to say that my Girlie is quite the gutsy gal.

I happened to be stalking slummin' volunteering at the school the other day at lunch time. She came up to me rather concerned. She was afraid that her closest boy friend -- note the space between the words -- might have a crush on her. She said she didn't return such feelings. She decided she was going to write a letter to him in class that afternoon. I said, "You're not going to read it out loud are you?" [Frankly, with her, you're never really sure.] She scoffed at that, rolled her eyes and said, "Mom! Never!"

After school, she skipped up to me, all happy as could be, as she'd slipped him said note and he had responded, putting her mind at ease. [My mind, too, thanks!]

She's one gutsy Girlie, that nine-year-old girl of ours.

That lovely boy? He crossed out "crush" and wrote in "best friend in the world."

Gutsty gal, indeed - and sophisticated, too. The direct route is always best.

Oh, is she CUTE. That boy's got taste. You know... in "best friends" and stuff. :)

I am far from nine and am certainly nowhere near that gutsy! There's certainly nothing wrong with being "the best friend in the world" either!

That's such a lovely read. My daughter's turning 9 soon too! She's pretty shy though.

It's amazing how kids surprise us everyday, that we put up with listening to Hannah Montana's songs about 30 times a day.

I love a woman of any age who knows what she wants in a relationship. I hope she finds a guy sweet as this one when she's older! :-)

That is truly heart-cockle-warming, his adorable response! I love it. And Girlie rocks.

Pretty cute note! Wish I'd thought of something like that at that age. Heck, wish I'd thought of that at a lot older ages and stages of relationships come to think of it.

Be careful carrying that "porn" around now too. LOL
