The Power of Love

What drew me to him the very first time
Was the way he uttered my name.
Whenever he said it, whether quietly or not
My heart just would not beat the same.

Against others’ wishes, against even mine
We careened toward each other.
With such disapproval aimed squarely at us
What a surprise when we made another.

Time slowed just enough for a cocoon to form
Enveloping us into its core.
The three of us snuggled, a unit not whole
Without our girlie to make it four.

Although from the first day, I’d made it quite clear
That while I’d love him forever,
The exchanging of wedding vows, the wearing of white,
Was something that would happen…never.

I’m sure you can foretell what did happen next.
One morning I woke him and said, “Let’s.”
Holding the lad’s hand and with girlie on my back,
A Maryland judge, our marriage she blessed.

Fast forward quickly through eight dramatic years
Of joy, of tears, of laughs, of flames
We’ve added a fifth, too, our very last one.
Please, just keep saying my name.

While I am getting more and more into writing haiku, I don't ever pretend that I have talent for poetry in general. So why now? Because it's our wedding anniversary, and I don't ever get a chance to embarrass myself within the pages of this blog. Until the above, of course.

I love my husband. I've loved him for a very long time. I intend to love him forevermore, bad poetry notwithstanding. Happy 8th anniversary!

Congratulations, and I love the poem. I wish I had more talent with poetry, it's not something that comes easily to me.

Happy anniversary and many more! That was a very neat way to write about him, the children, your relationship. Very moving.

Happy Anniversary, Patois! And here's my added wish for many, many more!
(P.S. - yes it was too a good poem.)

Not bad poetry - beautiful poetry, and an even more beautiful love story. I wish you many, many more years of him saying your name! Congratulations and blessings on your anniversary!

I don't believe in talent. You become a great basketball player by playing, and a great writer by writing... the only way to do anything worthwhile is to stick your neck and take a chance! I'm glad you are willing to make a fool of yourself.
