Fashionably late,
you arrived to great fanfare,
offering only
yourself. Such a small being
to make such a huge impact.

This, however, is a 'ku. That very late little baby is now 11 years old, and his teeth, which we chronicled the eruption of just an instant ago, fall to the wayside.
Another pearl falls
from your mouth, chipping my heart
as you grow too fast.

I don't know a lot about poetry, so "TANKA" very much for culturizing me.
Cute pic.
isn't that the way with children!? they come powerfully, envelop us in love & take our hearts with them!

Tiny things changing our world, chipping our hearts. You summed it right up. Just lovely.
I too had a tiny baby who made a big impact - she now a little woman.
Love the teeth 'ku - the 'pearl...chipping my heart' - great image.
Hey, I've missed you P. Still reading you daily and sincerely impressed with your talent.
Your son is so handsome. Beautiful ku to match.
Nice tanka! And indeed children grow too quickly.
You should be very proud of your boy, and of your poetry. I really admire people who can say what they mean so succinctly--I sure can't!

Those are wonderful. I admire the way you wrote them very much (I am still learning and didn't even write this week's!). http://meeyauw-pad.blogspot.com/2008/02/one-deep-breath-found-in-wandering.html
Sniff, they truly do grow up so fast. I really enjoyed your tanka & 'ku.
