Haiku: Desert/Desserted

Camouflage undone
by ignorant woman means
bird eggs leave their nest

Murmurs of comfort
fail to help one who feels passing
more strongly than birds

I wrote Monday about the "catastrophe" which befell our household -- and most strikingly, Daughter -- when we found a bird's nest with four eggs, only to later find the nest empty. Daughter is feeling the desertion of the birds-never-to-be most strongly. Seeing One Single Impression's prompt this week, I had no choice but to write of the dearly departed eggs.

Growing up in the country, we went through this so many times, with various birds and animals. It is sad, but so much better than not caring at all.

We've had a similar situation at our house before. It can be hard for the kiddos.

Many birds do away with the eggs of others to invade the nest. Such a sad story for a child.

I wanted to post on the HSM post, but it wouldn't let me! B loves HSM too and when we went and saw it she was like the girls in your photos, all starstruck!!! By the way, this is my new blog, not sure I ever gave it to you.

we are surrounded by nests (our home is on stilts with trees all around) & it is so sad to see what your words capture...i would guess that only about half our nests see the brood to fledgings. even though we know it is the way of the world, it is still sad to see so many eggs abandoned
