Muscling her way
in to find the perfect spot.
We're dog people now.
The ability of Corrie the Wonder Mutt to become one of us -- or for us to become one of her kind -- occurred to me when thinking of assimilation. I can track my time as a SAHM by her growth: we promised the kids we'd get a dog when I quit my gig at The Chronicle. Naturally, they were more excited to have her than to have me full time. [Right back at ya, kids!]
Redefining who
I am sans job description.
I was what I did.

Pets have a way doing that, don't they? She's a beauty!
You have shown how love can have its way!
Wonderfully refreshing!! Loved the pet theme..
I've been assimilating my mom's cat into our household and he's done quite well. Aren't pets just awesome?
Patois, each of your haikus fits me! I hadn't thought of how people and the animals they live with assimilate into the culture of each other. Thank you.
Our dog, Adi, slept in the utility room at our former home. The first night here Adi cried and cried so Mrs. Jim said we ought to let her sleep in our room for one night. Her bed has been beside our bed ever since.
Then too, I have had about seven, maybe ten, lives and each is what I was (then).
..
I feel both of these. I remember how much we all assimilated to the dog's way of being and were better for it. And I know how it is to be without work, as I am right now that school is out. It's weird and it's hard.
Thanks for these great poems.
Good luck.
I had never been a dog person until -- well, you know. Yours is beautiful! (I meant the dog, but the adjective applies to the haiku too.)
She's beautiful. You captured it wonderfully. That's what happens when we belong to each other. Assimilation.
Wonderful example of beautiful assimilation!
Great haiku, and your dog looks lovely. I'm a dog lover who goes all goey for canine buddies.
She left you with little choice, hasn't she?
I've been there, too, and you bring it all home in the most concise and charming way!
These are great. The first we understand completely how that works. And the second I can identify with a lot.
