We'd trap bees as they made their way into flowers on the bushes lining the sidewalks. We'd stalk, trap and ultimately unwittingly kill fireflies. And we'd breathe in sharply as we'd pluck the bell-shaped flowers on the honeysuckle vines, gulping down a liquid that I've yet to find a comparison to.
White honeysuckles
waving and wafting in breeze.
We are hummingbirds.
For One Single Impression. Thank you to OSI and Geraldine for this trip down memory lane. Do read the fine offerings this week.

Those are some very vivid memories Patois! We all did some strange things as children, didn't we? LOL I had a friend who would eat a grasshopper for a dollar!!!!! I met her many years later and reminded her of this "talent" which she had tried to forget.
Loved your haiku! Glad you enjoyed my prompt offering.
Hugs, G
I am smiling in reading your poem.

I remember doing all that stuff! And I lament the fact that my daughter does not know what honeysuckle smells like. At least, I'm pretty sure she doesn't. She knows what the inside of my car smells like. It ain't the same. Nowhere close.
Oh, such a delightful read!! Beautiful words and sets the scene...totally smelling it here :)
Love this haiku. To this day I love the taste of honeysuckle nectar.
God, I miss honeysuckle! I could make a meal off the stuff back when I would spend summers at my grandfather's farm.
drinking in the nectar of your haiku. it's quite lovely.
wonderful haiku - we both wrote about honeysuckle this time and both childhood memories - it was great to read your memory.
I am not sure I could recognize honeysuckle anymore. When I was a teen a girl showed me how to suck the honey out.
I've never been able to do that again. And I don't remember who she was so I can't bake that recipe again.
Now if I were a hummingbird I could find some almost every day. Just ask the poet. :-)

Oh how I love the smell of honeysuckles! It's a most wonderful smell and I like it when the wind surprise me with its wonderful scent. Now that I think of it, I think I will go and get me some ...
That is the magic of childhood, to be sure. Gorgeous memory.
I am that old, too. Lost in Space was a favorite game.
