Pope Elevates Obama to Sainthood

In an unprecedented move for the Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI has skipped the logical steps to beatification and has named Sir Barack Obama, current President of the United States, a saint.

"Hell, it was only a matter of time before I would take these steps," the Pontiff said. "First the Nobel Prize committee awarded him the Nobel Peace Prize, then Lizzie [Queen Elizabeth II] gave him the knighthood. What was I to do? I didn't want to be the last one to break all the rules and norms. Besides, what's another saint when we're talking the Second Coming?"

* * *

When Pete just opened up his laptop and told me Obama had been given the Nobel Peace Prize, I was stunned. He had to be joking. I mean Obama gets it for campaigning, right? I mean, what else, exactly, did he do through February 1 of this year? Is that how effed-up the world is that we can't find any real peacemakers out there?

Even the press is scratching their collective head over this one.

I found it irritating--give him a chance to actually do something.

As they were saying on NPR this morning, I think it's more about Europe wanting to give a slap to the former administration than anything he's actually done.

If it was Europe giving a slap to the previous administration it simply highlights that the Nobel Prize has become another worthless political back slapping jolly. I can't help but think that Alfred Nobel will be spinning in his grave at this news.

Wonders never seize eh? Love the photo and I agree, can sainthood be far behind. Nice one Patois.

Mrs. Jim agrees with you, Patois.
I would differ. When we visited Europe this Spring I was in constant amazement at the difference in feeling we received as Americans as opposed to a year ago. THEY DID NOT LIKE BUSH AT ALL.
I do agree it was a little closed minded of them but now our, United States, status there has improved like light as opposed to the former darkness.
They even have posters (art) for sale about the 'rebuilding of American' with Obama as a figure more than once in many of them.
We didn't buy one.

I like Obama and totally agree with you--and yet, as I watched people yesterday making a case for him getting the award, I could see their side, too. Mostly, I feel for Obama: he's intelligent enough to be a bit mortified by this, I'm sure.

I mentioned to Eldest the other night that I had a fairly wide open day Friday. Writer that he is, he wondered if I would perhaps like a wri...
