Child Predators and Foxholes

"There are no atheists in foxholes."

The statement was first uttered during World War II. It's been repeated for ages and ages. I don't know when I first heard it. I do know when I last considered it. It was this morning when I was IMing with a friend before the mad rush of getting kids and selves ready and out the door.

A 30-year-old man from northern Marin was arrested Saturday after he drove up to a 10-year-old girl who was walking with her bike at a school. He made a sexual comment, exposed himself and smiled at the girl. Her parents were nearby. They called 911. Deputies stopped the SUV and noticed a couple of items -- fishing stickers on the back window and a camouflage jacket in the vehicle -- that were reported after two girls in another town were accosted.

According to the Marin Independent Journal, "Deputies searched [his] vehicle and found lubricant and an iPhone containing suspected child porn, so they obtained a search warrant for his home in Novato. At the residence, detectives found hundreds of porn videos and Barely Legal magazines, girls' underwear, and business cards with photos of 'prepubescent minors' and the words 'Models wanted.'"

They also found what they called a "rape kit": a "backpack containing duct tape, flexible restraints, plastic tarps, protective shoe covers, latex gloves, lubricant, condoms, towels, bandages and a lint roller."

The girl he approached Saturday was at the school a beloved friend of mine attends. She will be 9 in a few months.

This man lives relatively near us. He lives closer to us than 99.9999% of the country's population does. And when I say "us," I include my 11-year-old Daughter in the mix.

I'm not putting his name here. But I'm also not saying he "allegedly" did these things. They've caught him in the act. As far as I'm concerned, they've got him dead to rights. I pray that he was still working up the nerve and that he hadn't successfully molested or raped or killed a girl just like the girls in my life.

I'm supposed to be against the death penalty. "Supposed to" as in I'm a recovering Catholic and a practicing Episcopalian and of a mostly liberal bent.

"There are no liberals when it's your child harmed."

Kill the motherf$#ker. He can't be saved. And why bother anyway?

I'm with you on this one. One incident when justifiable homicide should be legal, let a parent take care of the molester.

I have been thinking of people like this lately--prob becauyse of the news. Another blogger in Cincinnati, OH posted about a story that had bad results. She wondered too about the death penalty. Who has ever heard of these sickos reforming??
It made me think of the site called family watchdog. You put in your zip code and then you see address and photos. And then you are left pale with goosebumps.
I hope too that he had the signs but never went thru with the actions.
