Wordy Wednesday #102

He was five weeks old when I brought him into the office I would be returning to far too f#$kin' quickly. She had a 5-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl. She glommed onto my baby so quickly. So damn quickly. At the time, it was funny. And scary.

Fast forward more than 13 years. There is a baby who came to visit Saturday. A baby who is the grandchild of my children's real mother. A baby who is the grandson of the man for whom Youngest is named.

It goes too fast. I had tears in my eyes when I recounted to his mom the episode when Eldest was only five weeks old. Mothers give birth to children who grow up so fast. So fast.

Oliver, you are beyond loved. Mothers, everywhere, hold your babies tightly.

What an adorable little baby and boy, what words that brought tears to my old eyes too. How true that our babies do grow up way too quickly and lord knows, I know that as my oldest "baby" just turned 43, the middle child will soon be 37 and the baby a big old 35 and now, the darned grandkids are growing up even faster it seems that their parents did! And people ask foolish questions of me like "Why would you like more grandchildren?" Obviously those are people have none of those things in their lives to remind us of the wonderful little people that had once been our sole charges in life. Good words, Patois!
