Tell Me You Don't Feel the Same
Last year, a 9-year-old girl was out with her father, walking on a suburban street, probably excitedly telling him all about her adventures of the day.
They crossed the street, in a crosswalk, at a stop sign. Two cars were waiting at that stop sign for her to cross.
A local man with eight (8!!) prior DUI convictions was on that same road, riding his motorcycle. He wove between the two cars, blowing right through the stop sign, and crashed into the pair. The father lost a leg. And his daughter.
Melody was killed by Edward Schaefer that night. A little 9-year-old girl.
You're not supposed to imagine what would happen if someone were to take your child from you. You're not supposed to because the very thought is unimaginable.
But sometimes you wonder.
I would pay someone to kill anyone who did any of my children harm. I would find some disenfranchised loser in the prison system, and I'd pay him to bone crush any mo-fo who took my child's life or, as bad, my child's soul.
And I wouldn't lose a damn bit of sleep over it.
Edward Schaefer was killed by another prisoner at San Quentin yesterday.
Good.

I would flip the switch myself, and not lose a bit of sleep over it.
