Sorry, No New Car

He's 16 today. Best 16 years of my life.

Here I am being the normal mother, writing birthday wishes on her always-normal son's card:

I never thought the joy I felt the day you arrived could ever be matched, but it has been -- each and every day since you've been here. You are an amazing young man. Happy birthday!

Love,
Mom

In less than three years, he'll be out of my daily orbit forever. If 16 years can go by this fast, imagine three. In the meantime, I'll try to remember to appreciate every opportunity to annoy the shit out of him.

What a handsome young man! I know what you are feeling about the years disappearing too quickly! My "children" are now in their thirties and I see the little ones here heading off to school and think mine surely should be somewhere in that crowd! Sons hold a very special place in their mother's heart, and he will always be close to you, even when he spreads his wings to fly away!

Oh, and I was delighted to see you had comments back, sorry I just had to leave one here! :-)

Oh, JTS, I never had the comments off for you! That sentiment about thinking yours "surely should be somewhere in that crowd" resonates strongly with me. And I've still got one in elementary school. But just one last year.

xxxooo to you.

Congratulations to both of you! The last sentence would have had me spitting coffee on my keyboard, if I hadn't already finished it.

Mine is turning 14 soon, and I can't believe how fast this is all going by!

I Could Use Less Excitement, Too

"So glad you were all able to be here. A little less excitement next time. Love all of you." I received that text from my Mom as...
