D.C. Bound

I'm taking the kids to visit D.C. over spring break. (Note the lowercase "spring break." That's because our spring break has nothing to do with Easter. In fact, I think our school district specifically chooses the dates for spring break so they don't coincide at all with Easter. Not that I care. And not that the spurious allegation is true. We have lowercase spring break in April each year, Easter be damned, because we have Ski Week. And, yes, the uppercase "Ski Week" is intentional because, as we all know, we worship snow far more than we worship He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named-When-Referring-To-Public-School-Issues. Except when the Pledge of Allegiance is said. Or when a kid really wants to do well on a test. Or when a kid really flunked a test.)

More Patty blathering.

One thing we'd like to do is tour the White House. Do you know you can score White House tours -- sequester notwithstanding -- if your member of Congress -- not any old member, heh-heh, heh-heh, heh-heh -- requests it for you? I know that. So a week or so ago, I sent an email to our Representative, Jared Huffman, asking if he could help.

Nothing yet.

So it's off to social media to try to score the tour of the decade. Which is why I've posted this on Facebook:

Think I stand a chance, Rep. Huffman?

I know. I'm just crossing my fingers that it's a non-sequester by then.

Also? I want to hear back from Huffman.

Let's hear it for Huffman's office. Got a lovely reply this a.m. Great, personable gentleman from Huffman's office emailed me requirements and forms to fill out. Noted that the tours were suspended, but that he'd put in for one just in case. And, offered to get us Supreme Court and Capitol building tours. So, well we might just all have to live without the White House -- you especially, Romney -- at least I know my congressman's office is open for business.
